Basic Small Engine Maintenance and Repair for Fire Departments

This 3-hour course equips fire department personnel with practical, hands-on skills to maintain and troubleshoot small engines essential to emergency operations. Designed for firefighters and support staff with limited mechanical experience, the training emphasizes equipment reliability, safety, and operational readiness.

Participants will learn routine inspection and maintenance procedures for small engines used in portable pumps, generators, chainsaws, and ventilation equipment. Topics include fuel and lubrication systems, air filtration, basic ignition components, safe starting procedures, and proper storage to prevent equipment failure.

The course focuses on preventative maintenance and early problem identification, helping reduce downtime and ensure equipment performs reliably when needed most. By the end of the session, attendees will be able to perform basic service tasks and recognize when equipment requires advanced repair or professional servicing.
